I'm focusing on two examples of English-speaking countries. I'm not saying they're the only English-speaking countries in the world.
I don't think that many other non-English speaking countries in the world use "Ash" as a localized name, so they wouldn't fall into this problem.
The Asian countries don't use Ash as a name. But apparently Germany, Italy and France do. I don't know if they'd attribute the main character of Red/Blue with the name "Ash" in the same way so many kids here growing up with the anime would.
