The eye designs of the Generation I Pokemon

Why do all their eye designs look almost the same?? Some are pretty boring looking too. Compared to the later Gens, Gen I looks so simple and odd...

The difference between Gen I / II and every other Gen is that A.) Sugimori's art style has developed and changed over the years and B.) there's a design team now instead of just him, so you get more influences / styles

IMO, eyes are the easiest way to ID an artist - at least in terms of animation.

Look at all of McFarlane's eyes, Toriyama's eyes, the SMT artist's eyes, etc.

Then again I'm not very artistic so I could be wrong.

The design team was always more than Sugimori. The only Gen 1 Pokémon confirmed to be designed by Sugimori are Bulbasaur and Gengar. He didn't even design Pikachu. He just does all the official artwork for consistency.

You think the eyes are bad? That moment you realize half of gen1's pokemon are built like dinosaurs and/or are primarily brown in coloring.

Quoting the Bible is about as useful and relevant as quoting Dr. Seuss.

I find it a little jarring every time I see Pokémon across the Gens next to each other in the players guide. Pidgey next to Fletchling is weird. One is detailed but dull and the other is simple but much more colorful. It's weird. I like it though; diversity makes things better.
