So if I were to acquire that kind of Ditto, if I were to use it for breeding and have it hold the item Destiny Knot, does that mean the egg pokemon will automatically have perfect IVs in 5 stats? Is it actually guaranteed?

Destiny Knot guarantees 5 IV.. but they're randomly chosen from BOTH parents, no matter who holds it.

No. Destiny Knot guarantees 5 out of 12 IVs (6 from both parents) are passed.
1 is always random. So no. 5 IV is not guaranteed.

Nope. The only way the egg is guaranteed 5IV is if both parents are 6IV and one of them is holding Destiny Knot.

Ok so I'm more confused about this Destiny Knot item then.

What does Destiny Knot actually do then? I mean, what's the point? Why use it? My first impression of that item was that "oh sweet, breeding will be great for me now" but now "nope", just "guarantees 5 IVs"...whatever that means.

Which leads me to my next question. What do you mean Destiny Knot "guarantees 5 IVs"?

It guarantees that the baby will inherit 5IVs from the parents.

Step 1. Pick five stats to pass down from the parents. (HP/Def/SpA/SpD/Spe etc.)
Step 2. For each inherited stat pick which parent the stat is inherited from (F/F/M/F/M etc.)

All choices are random, which parent holds the Destiny Knot is irrelevant.

Destiny Knot guarantees that five IVs are passed down from the parents to the offspring instead of three without using it.

Yeah also another thing. The 6th IV stat will ALWAYS be random. So even if you have 2 babies with 6 IV's and you breed them and one holds Destiny Knot then the offspring will have 5 IV's at 31 BUT the 6th one will be anything from 0 to 31.
Why do we exist? What happens when we stop existing?

Ok so basically, when it guarantees 5 IVs, it doesn't actually mean it will pass down the IVs from whoever is holding the Destiny Knot. Is that correct?

Right. Destiny Bond has the same effect regardless of which parent holds it.
