Ok, so I have a pretty firm grasp on how to pass down perfect IV's on demand with the time machine method, but I'm not so certain how this works with gender and abilities. Basically, I'm wondering if gender and ability are predetermined like the IV's are or if they are randomly generated each time.

So for example, say I'm using the Time Machine method to breed a male Gligar with the Immunity hidden ability with a 3IV Ditto and the baby Gligar ends up with 3IV, male, and having the Sand Veil ability. If I soft reset and hatch another Gligar egg is it guaranteed to also be male with Sand Veil?

Yeah, the time machine method.

Unfortunately, the videos I've watched haven't really covered how (or if) gender and ability work with it, so here I am.

Breeding is not that hard, just breed and breed until you get a good one

In the amount of time you spend theorycrafting how to breed, you could have bred what you needed already by just riding around by the daycare hatching more eggs....

Yes, I realize that. However once I understand the fundamentals of the time machine method, it will drastically cut down on my breeding times in the future.

To Volcarona: Yeah, breeding is easy, but I'd much rather hatch a single egg looking for the IV's that I want rather than 20 or 30.

From my crude observations you can only guarantee genders and abilities if for the former they have the same ratio as the test parents, and for the latter, if the ability% is also the same.

My guess on how it works it that the game creates values from 1-100 and this is what determines genders and abilities. For example, a 51 for Magikarp is female, but still a male for Eevee.

Don't take this at face value though, I'm only guessing. I've had cases where the HA wasn't passed down, but a Lightning Rod female Electrike still passed down Lightning Rod for the same seed.

It's possible to make breeding even easier, though

Ok, so if you're correct then does that mean that since my test parents (Magikarp) have a 50/50 gender ratio, as well as Gligar also having a 50/50 ratio, then for any particular egg the gender will always be the same no matter how many times I reset?

Yeah.

Though nothing ever changes if you reset. Everything about that egg has already been determined.
