What is the best nature for Froakie/Greninja and which stats should I EV train?

#1UltimarokPosted 8/3/2014 5:23:40 PM
Just want to train it to be as strong as possible or as best as it can possibly be.

So what's the best nature for a Froakie that will eventually be evolved into Greninja and what is the best way to EV train it stat-wise? Also, should I start the EV training while it's still Froakie or begin once I reach one of its evolutions?

Either way, I'm planning to main Greninja, ultimately in Pokemon Y. Haven't started the game yet, but will be soon.

The best nature for Greninja is +Speed, so go for Timid, and do an EV spread of 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed and 6 HP.

Interesting choices. I will try out each build once I can breed some. (Or I might do the Timid one with the starter.) Thanks a lot for the answers.

I haven't played Pokemon in a long time and thus haven't kept up with all the latest news. Also been a while since I've done any EV training or meta-gaming, so you'll have to forgive me.

Doesn't matter when you start EV training it, right?

I'd recommend EV training asap, since each Pokemon your Froakie will fight gives it a few EVs, possibly in the wrong places. Just check the Super Training chart to keep track of it.

This is for an in-game Greninja, right? If so, Nature doesn't actually matter a whole lot but Rash or Mild would probably be best since your solo Greninja should be fast enough to outspeed everything, anyway, and you might end up using physical moves.

For EV training, every time a Pokemon gets Exp, it also gets EVs. So that very first Fennekin you fight will end up giving you 1 SpAtk EV. After that, the first time you could actually EV train it in SpAtk is on Litleo on Route 22 (or maybe with Super Training before that) so you'll end up with a bunch of random EVs from trainers.

Although, I wouldn't worry about a couple random EVs since 1 or 2 points of SpAtk lost aren't a big deal (and you're not even worrying about IVs) so I'd recommend just waiting until you can Super Train it and max out its EVs that way.

Aright, thanks RandysRage. In that case I'm gonna go ahead and get started on this.

Yes, this will be an in-game Greninja.

And that's correct, not worrying about IVs for now, but I will be when I finally start breeding if anyone wants to go ahead and give me and advice for that as well.

So I take it that Super Training is some sort of new feature? I skipped out on Black and White and this is my first Pokemon game in a long time since HeartGold and SoulSilver.

If there's a way to explain it without spoilers, that'd be great. If not, then no worries as I'll probably find out about it in-game eventually.

Thanks.
