So uh... Question about the Aegislash ban

Why should I care?

Honest question. I really do want to know.

Why should I care about this? Why do YOU care about this? How does this effect playing the game at all? What will happen if I DO use it?

Smogon Ninjas will break your knees.

Serious answer: If you don't play by Smogon rules, there is absolutely no reason to care unless you like complaining. In which case, by all means, care.

Aegislash's usage on Battle Spot will rise.

You should care that Aegislash is banned because it is even more proof that singles is a bad metagame and you should switch to vgc or triples

Thanks. Follow up question:

Why do people follow Smogon's rules? To my knowledge it just sounds like a bunch of "you're not allowed to do this, and you're not allowed to NOT do this"

It kind of sounds boring and restricting to me. Does anyone here play by their set rules? If so, please, tell me why you follow them.

I can imagine you guys get a fair amount of trolls about Smogon and Smogon related things, but I am genuinely curious about what drives people to follow their rules.

EDIT: Ninja'd - What's vgc? I don't really follow the meta. I pick what I like and I build it how I like. I don't really care THAT much about it. Not enough to keep up with it and really try, but it is fun to join in some battles from time to time, even if I lose constantly.

Some of their restrictions are actually good, like no Mega Mom,sleep clause, evasion clause, and their tier system.

People follow Smogon's rules because they want to cling to a dying format (singles) and Smogon makes singles a little better, although a lot of their bans are still stupid
