It seems kinda like a random choice. Like team battles being the choice for Smash Bros tourney or something.

Main reason: faster. Less switch-fest and stalling
Other reason: more balanced compared to singles. All move can be used in doubles, and more Pokemon get chances to do things.

That's not comparable at all. Team battles in Smash are two players versus two players.

It's not a random choice because the game has been balanced for doubles since gen 4

This! Singles is LONG outdated basically. Idk why they don't make the full game doubles. I guess they keep it singles as tradition. Or to be easily on young players.
