Stall actually wouldn't be viable if it weren't for Smogon rules. Honestly if I could take Smogon clauses and use VGC rules for viable pokes (KB, no legends, etc) I'd play it.

no
vgc needs no extra rules (and all "smogon" clauses make it worse) and removing item clause would be the worst thing

The clauses are not that bad. I actually only need evasion and sleep clause tbh. The others (I don't even know em off hand) can go.

And we can keep item clause idc lol.

evasion is a terrible strategy and will never work in doubles
if you are getting rekt by sleep in doubles your teambuilding sucks/you played r inanimate

Being put to sleep doesn't make you bad. And just because it isn't a problem in doubles doesn't mean that you have to treat doubles like singles. They don't have to be identical.

76 pokemon were used at least 1% of the time at VGC 2014
121 pokemon were used at least 1% of the time in Gen VI Smogon OU

What's that about more variety in doubles? Ha

I don't support all of the bans that Smogon uses, but they seem to be effective in widening the rage of viable mons. With very little restriction, the VGC meta has less variety because people are using the strongest ("broken") pokemon or using a popular gimmick. People get stuck on bandwagons and they don't even bother to look into things before they speak.

You gotta take into account that VGC is currently limited to Kalos- dex only.

There are more noobs in OU, so there are more people who uses their fav Pokémon and lose with it. Also, there is a difference between people using diverse Pokémon and people actually winning with diverse Pokémon.

Gamefreak does not balance the game for singles, and hasn't done that for a few generations.

Only doubles is balanced.

Plus the matches are faster.

So having Talonflame, Rotom, Kangaskhan, Garchomp and Aegislash on most winning teams is variety? Pretty cool world you're living in buddy, oh, and nice meme arrow you got there. I've looked at the teams for VGC 2014, I know what I'm talking about. Pokemon just isn't an exceptionally balanced game in any format. There's always going to be preferred Pokemon and they're going to be used more often. Neither meta is that balanced or full of variety, we can't act like one is miles ahead of the other. Both are susceptible to cookie cutter teams. I tried doubles on a sim using a team of unorthodox Pokemon that someone posted and was wiped out every time. I built one using cookie cutter pokemon and went undefeated. Variety can really only be seen when people use weather or trick room team, otherwise its the same few pokemon with one or two substituted according to taste.

It requires a lot more strategy and thinking.
