I love ice type. It's great to have a pokémon packing ice beam. But as a type the weaknesses kill it. Fire, ground, and steel moves are found on almost any type of Pokemon so ice type never get those safe moments even in the main story. What changes to the type could make an ice type more viable or are there tricks that I don't know that make it competitive?

Ice just needs some resists; Water, Normal, Flying and Grass would be fine.

FYI, Ice isn't weak to Ground. Just sayin'.

It's not ground, it's rock ice is weak to, and remove steel because as far as I know, ice breaks steel if it gets cold enough.

Ice types that are competitively good are good despite the typing, not because of it. Besides giving stab to certain moves, ice type is a liability.

no, ice types that are good are good because of their ice stab

they are generally offensive pokemon so losing that stab will obviously make them less useful

I think the Pokemon themselves are generally defensive (why) but the type itself is offensive. But GF keeps making them defensive, while everything else enjoys non stab hidden power & ice beams.

Remove ice weakness to rock, and let it resist water. That should balance it.

Weak to steel, fighting, fire
Resists Ice, water
Super effective against flying, grass, ground, dragon
Resisted by water, fire, ice, steel

Probably balanced.
This is why we need feminism.

Besides type chart changes, GF could simply stop making bulky ice mons, and more offensive oriented ones. But Ice types do need the bulk for their terrible defensive properties...

Also, coverage moves for ice types, and more physical options. I think the only physical ones not exclusive are Ice Punch, Ice Shard, and Avalanche (Icicle Crash is good, but not many learn it).
