Note: The Super Mario 64 style will have SOME platforming, but it won't be a big focus of the game, much like Sunshine and 64. The levels would obviously be WAY larger than the older levels, with the power of the Wii U. Also, some of the levels in the Galaxy style will dabble in exploration, much like some worlds in those games did.

Personally, I'd prefer linear, platforming-heavy levels. I play Mario games for swift and action-packed platforming, not exploration, collect-a-thons, or interaction with NPCs (I'm looking at you, Sunshine.). However, if Nintendo found a way to create a third type of gameplay that incorporates the best of both styles, then I'm all for it.

Still, I voted for linearity.

Give me a bit of a mix. Heavy platforming, but exploration heavy.

64 and Sunshine spoiled me, I just don't want another point A to point B 3D Mario. If you're going to make me go in a linear game, do it as a 2D plaftormer like NSMB.

I'd like a mix of the two the most, with both platforming and exploration. If I had to choose one of the styles, though, I'd prefer exploration.

The best way to go, I feel, would be a solid balance/middle-ground between exploration, and pure platforming. Appease both sides. If I could choose only one, it would be the linear style with heavy platforming. It allows for some really creative and crazy level designs which I felt made the Galaxy games shine.

While I agree a mix of the two styles would be amazing, we have yet to see what it would be like. More than likely nintendo will just pick one or the other anyways or not balance them quite properly, however. I also wanted to see which was the preferred of the two, or what other crazy ideas people could come up with. That's mainly the reason I didn't include a "both" option.

I prefer a mix. There could be larger levels that had more exploration and secrets to uncover and a few mini levels with Galaxy style platforming.

The levels in the Galaxy games were all relatively large, even considering they consisted of mostly groups of planetoids.

Sunshine got it right with the stages. Any linear stage was a bonus stage. But if we get bonus linear stages I want them to be like galaxy stages.

I dunno, my answer might be weak.

I would like a mixture of the two. Maybe have large exploratory levels with standard objectives. Then have some sections and objectives in the levels that are heavily platformer based. Somehow melding these two gently.
