Why do I have to log in to Battlenet to be able to play this game?

Some people live in areas with poor or spotty Internet connections. Why can't I play this game offline?

Because the only thing you'd be able to do is tutorials and the challenges against the heroes. The bulk of the game requires an online connection, that's why you have to.

This really needed to be explained to you?

Since when was this a single player game?
Life would be unbearably dull if we had answers to all our questions.

Multiplayer games are exclusively multiplayer.

Same as some games only have single player components.

Being able to play practice mode offline seems like a reasonable request.

They will have some single player campaign soon, but probably still needs you to be online to counter any hackers or cheaters.
