Steam pipes?

How far into the story do I need to get to get past the steam pipes? I assume there is some kind of gear I eventually can use to block the venting.

Spoiler---

I just broke into the GCPD, do I have much farther to go?

Also, there is an enigma pressure plate just outside of there that has a 2 second timer on it, I have no idea what it does, there is a data packet nearby but the pressure plate doesn't open it.....can someone tell me what I am missing?

We don't have time for this, the Pasteur's core is going to breach!!

steam pipes is pretty late game whereas you're pretty early game

As for the datapack... I'm not visualizing exactly which one you mean. If one pad doesn't open it, there's probably another. Check the wires running to the data pack in detective vision.

The steam pipes require the very last story gadget that you get so don't expect to do them anytime soon.

Something to remember with pressure pads is to look around for things that it is activating. Usually green buttons for you to throw Quick Batarangs at. May also need to use Remote Batarangs or Explosive Gel.

I know which datapack you're talking about. I have no idea how to get it though. :(

I just got the datapack the other day. There's a bridge up and to the left with lights on it.

I threw batarangs at it but didn't hit all the lights, but got the datapack anyway. Go figure.
