I just tried playing Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and HATED it. The problem is I STINK at open world games. I am interested in trying out Splinter Cell: Blacklist but am afraid it will be like Assassin's Creed. Is it an open world game or is it more like Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge (which I LOVED) where you clear out one section and then move to the next in a much more linear fashion?

Not open world, it's much more like your second sentence: clear out one section and then move to the next in a much more linear fashion.
You have more flexibility in choosing different routes/methods (lethal/nonlethal/completely undetected) in certain sections but it's pretty much linear. --- NNID: LoeliaPonsonby / iS*LoPo
