Any tips for playing defense?

This is my first NHL game that i'm getting into. So far i'm become pretty good with deke and scoring on the goalie in free skate, but when it comes to an actual game I am pretty bad with doing defense.

Anything I should be doing or not doing to help me win against the other team?

pay attention to what pos your playing and, stay in the general area they should be, ex) rw stay in the top right corner guarding the point also,i know hits are flashy, but dont pinch too soon

Positioning is key. Mainly, you want to keep the attacker on the outside of you and not letting him gain the inside ice on you. Try going for the pokecheck rather than the hit. If you force them outside as they try to enter the zone, chances are they are going to try to squeeze through that space along the boards and that is when you lay them out lol
