FM5 vs GT6 Graphics

I think Kazunori Yamauchi is smart for releasing it for PS3 first, at least from a business perspective. That Being said I remember some Premium cars looking amazing amongst the standard cars. Maybe not FM4 material but pretty amazing none the less. GT6 will be using adaptive tessellataion and updating for PS4. FM5 is using sub surface scattering? Is there any major difference, because in my head I imagine them being the same thing.

You're a step ahead of me, I don't even have a clue what either of those terms actually mean. Not even in dumbed-down-for-the-masses language.

by GT6 graphics you mean GT5 graphics??? All the videos I've seen of GT6 looks exactly the same as GT5. If you didn't label them, I couldn't tell you which game was which. Granted I could probably say the same thing about Forza 4 and 3 if you remove the hud.

Not to mention the E3 demos aren't showing much hope for GT6's graphics. People have already noted very bad pop-in and screen tearing.

Otherwise, the graphics look very similar to GT5, with the exceptions of the lighting being a bit better and some of the trackside elements have been improved.

All I can guess is either PD have had a very hard time wrangling with the cell processor or complete management failure. Take your pick.

Premium models looked a tad bit better than Forza 4, but when you race them around the track the 30fps (and lower) makes everything just feel and look more muddled so who really cares? I expect GT6 to look marginally better than 5, but well see.

As for adaptive tessellation vs subsurface scattering...its kind of two different animals that prey on the same thing: your eyes.

Adaptive tessellation will provide GT6 a nice trick to up poly counts as someone moves closer to the 3d model, which means you are reducing the poly count of the field of view around the model. Think of it like in all those silly cop movies where they say "freeze that image on the traffic cam, zoom in, enhance, zoom in, enhance again. Gotcha you bastard". Basically what GT6 is doing is enhancing the look the closer you get and from a technical standpoint that is achievable by not having to render the surrounding details that are now out of frame.

Subsurface scattering is a lighting technique that adds an incredibly high level of fidelity to models and worlds by having the light actually penetrate translucent materials. So in Forza 5, the light will penetrate the clear coat and you will see the multilayers of paint and see the imperfections. That is what Greenawalt is always talking about the paint imperfections.

In the end Forza 5 is definitely going to use some form of adaptive tessellation as well as SS to achieve the most detailed closeup shots ever seen in a videogame.

It's a bad comparison form the start but I've read quite a people saying they believe FM5 vs GT6 will offer some good competition in terms of graphics and car models etc. All I can say is from watching the 1080p60 off-screen footage, Forza 5 it's in a completely league altogether. The one thing GT6 has going for it is the excuse that it's a generation behind and that's about it.

The Matterhorn video I saw was an eye sore. Maybe they will fix much of it, but PD should have been ashamed to have even shown it.
