Pls never the style of Mario 64/Sunshine ever again

I think that the general format of the two games could return, but updated in really significant ways that improve things a ton, while still maintaining their appeal. Stuff like multiple Hubs, a combination of open levels with multiple objectives and linear levels with multiple distinct paths, and a greater sense of scale would all be pretty cool to see return. Mario does work with nonlinearity, it just wasn't done perfectly in SM64 or Sunshine.

More villains need to be protagonists. BIS proves it can work.
Ridley, Ganondorf, Fawful, Bowser, and Dimentio all for their own games!

You know you spent half your post ranting about semantics, right?
You know I really don't care, right?

The last sentence of the OP pretty clearly a summation of my thoughts anyway.

A worthless point, because it's about semantics. When people say "open world" Mario, they're not trying to claim 64 is like Skyrim. You know what they mean, and trying to correct their terminology doesn't change their opinion on the games themselves.

I agree that Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine are not open world like many people claim, but damn did I have fun with those games.

They felt like they had more meat on their bones than current Mario games offer. I love Mario 3D World and have played through it multiple times, but nothing compares to the amount of hours and exploration I put into Sunshine.

No it's not. It doesn't matter what they think, it's not open world. It's not up for debate. Some fans are even convinced that it is a fully open world game.
Did you even read the whole post? I'm not trying to change their opinions.

So you're saying there exists a substantial group of people who will look at Mario 64, then look at Skyrim, nod and say "Yes, those are the same type of game."

Or are we talking about intelligent life forms who would say "No, not THAT kind of open world"? If so, it's pointless. You know what they mean. Suck it up and move on.
