A theory

I think people would stop killing each other in free roam if we actually had something to do in free roam. Missions get old after you've done the same ones over and all. Basically in free roam all it boils down to is shooting at cops, getting crate drops, and stealing vehicles for Simeon. The later of which doesn't happen nearly as much as it should. It would be nice if the text message vehicles had locations that you could actually pick them up from. So it gets pretty boring if you're playing by yourself in free-roam and a quick way to have a bit of fun is run through players in the lobby until you are bored. For me it's a non issue, I don't mind it as I enjoy finding out new ways to maim and torture players that are actively engaging in fire fights with me. If you have a buddy in the game it's always fun when fire fights break out between several players in the game and bam you have something to do again.

RDR's free roam started off similarly and they added several things to do later on so I have faith that R* will keep us entertained. For starters that Casino should be opening up at some point, then the heists, hopefully they have more planned than those things.

if they added in all the old minigames that GTA used to have, then it wouldn't be as bad. taxi, cops, etc.

You just lost the game.

Yea...people are just aholes. There are a lot of things to do if you take the time. You can also kind of roleplay your crew around or use the other modes to kill. People kill because they apparently have no brain cells and cant think. I tried going around and killing people with someone to see what the fuzz was about. Got bored pretty quick. There is little fun on roaming killing everyone...less fun in being a dbag and blowing up someones car and constantly abusing them. The tank in the apartment, the helicopter targeting any plane or heli that decides to fly, the 2 man group on a car shooting everyone, the guy sticky bombing everyones vehicles... I can go on and on. People lack imagination. I would be pretty pissed if I was a rockstar developer and saw what the community did to the great Idea I had. Just wait for the heist so everyone can shoot eachother to get money they dont need. Part of the community is just dumb. Even killing griefters is boring after a couple of minutes. You have to be a monkey to enjoy beating a stone with a stick...that is exactly what people do online.

Gambling backrooms would be sweet.

Bike rentals at the beaches, parks, and half-pipe skate parks.

High stakes drag races in the LS flood river thing that get populated (and defended) by npc gang members if not enough players are available.

And maybe a BMX contest gametype where you're scored on height, rotation, and tricks (performed using the RB button).

Earning faction points for the various npc groups so you can get access to unique vehicles (for purchase or even like a Merryweather/Pegasus service) and where npcs from that faction will help you if they see someone attack you.

Really though I'd prefer to have the free aim sessions replaced by limited HUD and significantly reduced range for lock on (or only for npcs).

The radar is the biggest problem with free roam in my opinion. People wouldn't feel the need to glitch into buildings if it was such a pain to do anything without a huge bullseye.

They should try to merge the missions with free roam in GTA6. the whole lobby is notified of a mission once it's started and they can either help you or try to sabotage it, and the sneakiest players who've played that mission before could try to predict other people's progress and happen upon the reward before they get there. This would need strict balancing of course, don't make the end game marker too far from the last shootout or delivery etc, and people playing a mission only show up on radar when shooting an unsuppressed gun. It would also be a good excuse to make longer missions with wider map use.

that's a great idea. i'd just add giving the player a choice to do the mission in a public session or closed... public would get more RP and $ so there can be the balance.

Skateboarding would be really cool, maybe hoverboards but I can dream.

I agree, aside from killing bounties, there really isn't a lot to do in free roam, crate drops happen maybe once a session, simeon cars happen a few times and i haven't seen an armoured truck since launch where you couldn't get money from them,

Good topic TC and I agree. I have faith Rockstar will add more things to do. My problem is they seem to be taking their sweet time with it. I've been playing GTA Online happily since release (I was one of the rare ones who didn't have problems in the beginning). But recently, within the past two weeks I haven't even touched GTA Online. Most of my crew have moved on to other games and playing solo isn't as much fun when all there is to do is run the same missions over and over and have frantic shootouts in Free mode.

The only thing I haven't tired of in the game are the races and not enough people participate in those.
