Alright, so I finally got the game working and have it patched to 1.8 with sacred plus. Using the normal .exe, the game would crash my whole computer (bsod and all) when it checked for the cd-rom. I got a nocd patch for it, and it started up fine, BUT, as soon as I start a new game, I see my character standing there and everything seems fine, but then the screen just slowly fades to black. The sound is still there, if I hit esc I can still here the menu come up, but the screen is totally black and I can't see anything, therefore I still can't play the game. I'd really appreciate some help with this.
I have an NVIDIA 8800 with updated drivers. Not sure if thats part of the problem or not.

To “wisecrack”,

Don’t worry. I got you covered ^_^ / .

The same thing happened with me and this is what you “have” to do :P :

Go into the main program folder of Sacred (Underworld/Plus/W-e…).

Open the Settings.cfg file with a text editor (like Notepad/Wordpad/etc).

See below if you don’t know how to do this.

Anyway, then, near the bottom of the file, it says, “ShowMovie = (probably) 1”.

Set this value to zip/zero/zilch, and you should be fine.

What the game is thinking after that happens, is that you haven’t seen the opening movie, which is true. However, the timing is off for some reason after the patch :( and it drops you in the world first, Then “tries” to play the movie :(.

Also of note, hopefully you still have the original.exe, because one of the patches (maybe it’s the one above 1.8.25 – I don’t know), is a legit no-CD crack in itself, because the game no longer checks for the CD after that patch ^_^, meaning, you don’t need the nocd crack at all!!

Hope this helps. In more nerdy things, if you want to try messing with the values yourself, (Such as the violence one :|), you’re on your own, but remember, in Binary (or w/e), 1= on and 0= off :).

P.S. – to open the settings.cfg file in a text editor, right click the file and go to the “open with” dialogue (option/box/mark/w-e)… ^_^.

From there, just say, “choose program from the list” if it’s not listed immediately ;).

Personally, I don’t like using Word to do this – takes too much time to open, so WordPad is your best bet for stuff like this ^^.

Congrats and take care!
