MightyTucoPosted 7/20/2012 12:39:22 AM | I'm playing KH1 right now, and it's simply mind-blowing, how much more haunting and atmospheric it feels when I pretend the sequels/prequel/spin-offs don't exist. Times where much better when "Ansem" was just a simple story about a king who went mad, when Sora was a respectable character, and most importantly, when Disney was more than just useless filler. But even considering that....
Kingdom Hearts story is a fairy-tale, told through the lense of an RPG epic. Stories like that are best kept simple and shrouded in mystery. This is why the first Kingdom Hearts game was good enough, the lore didn't need to be over-explained past that. You can't take a mythology/story based entirely on fairytale abstractions and over-explain it over half a dozen convoluted Japanese RPGs. Of course it's going to seem confusing and weird.
Is it possible, at all possible, to explain the existence of the unecessary add-ons without using the world "money" or "greed?" |
feraldrgnPosted 7/20/2012 12:57:02 AM | I wouldn't say KH2 was because of greed, I mean money's always going to be involved in a successful series, that's business after all.
They must've had the story planned already, what with CoM setting up an explanation for KH2 & all of the secret cutscenes.
The Final Mix versions where cash ins IMO & unnecessary, but people still enjoy them.
I mean I personally don't like how they put all of the games on different consoles & handhelds, so it's almost impossible for someone in this economy to follow the story properly. But business isn't about generosity most of the time. |
falconesquePosted 7/20/2012 9:08:48 AM | Good title. :j
FWIW I don't see the FMs as cash-ins, but as paying a debt owed for shipping an incomplete release early to the same audience. Their JP audience deserved a finished release, is one way to look at it.
Be nice if they sent the FMs later as free rewards to those who registered, but that's a can of worms, highly unlikely -- SE is an international corporation with stockholders to answer to, after all. And the marketing truth is that the JP audience will snap up the same game twice, where the rest of the world generally won't. --- Guides and other contributions: http://www.esque.com/slr/gamefaqs/ FFX, FFXII, KH, KH Re:CoM, KH2, Okage: Shadow King, Secret Agent Clank |

Yes, it’s SO horrible when you have a fanbase of a series who likes a series and want more games in that series and then that company goes ahead and actually GIVES THEM more games to play. What a horrible, horrible company Square is to do this.
Come on, buddy...it’s SO easy to just rip on a company for daring to make money off of something that’s popular. Put yourself in their position.

I’d agree with this more than just the new games…there’s a chance they could have had this stuff in the original games…plus with the more modern games, this can be DLC rather than a whole new game to buy. But at the same time, the FM version of KH2 made me enjoy that game a LOT more… |

WhirligigJrPosted 7/21/2012 6:54:17 PM | There absolutely is a need for sequels and spin-offs, for one simple reason- Sora hasn't teamed up with anyone from Disney's Gargoyles yet.
You see, Gargoyles is my favorite Disney production, and in my top five for favorite TV series EVER. When a friend first told me about Kingdom Hearts, my first question was "Is anyone from Gargoyles in it?"
So, yes, there absolutely needs to be as many sequels and spin-offs as it takes for Goliath, Elisa, and the rest to show up. |

I should very well hope Batman: The Animated Series is on that list. Top notch stuff. |

I should very well hope Batman: The Animated Series is on that list. Top notch stuff. Probably, if I had to narrow down the top ten list that I made the other day. MST3K and Gargoyles though usually jockey each other for the top spot. But anyway, yeah. Gargoyles. I want to see Brooklyn or Goliath as party members! I want to see Sora and company on the rooftops of Manhattan at night! And I want a boss fight against Demona! Failing that, I hope they throw in a Duckburg or St. Canard as playable worlds. Because really, don't we deserve a Darkwing Duck or Ducktales sequence? |
ChipspiratePosted 7/27/2012 9:45:29 AM | Even if you say that, I would have never become interested in KH if it weren't for the over the top action in KH II, there is more market for it than you think.
Greed etc is a drive for many things, but I'm sure KHII has more fans than I since it packs quite alot of stuff and more details than number I. --- Sigchange when Nanostray 2, NG DS and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days are out. - sig changed, finally - 23.10.09 YGOWC11: 0003-6230-6591 |--| MPH: 5286-5289-2062 |
