Click FAQs, above, and download a copy of the Game Script for KH2. Search that guide for: "I never finished explaining" (without quotation marks).

That's how. Or something along those lines, anyway.

For details on KH-3D's story, best ask over on that board, or search its topics first. Spoiler tags would be needed for KH-3D details in posts on this board; "spoiler" in the title only covers KH2, not any other games.

No. XIII is also gone by KH2's end. Note the "with help from". Roxas submitted his existence to Sora himself.

by the time this topic was made, they already made 3D and released it, localized and all... (referring to the TC saying "making" by the way)

New players pick up the series all the time. They won't have hung around for years or anticipated the "next" release. The series' target audience is younger, too, and players at the lower fringe of GF's membership may not have the experience to discern the whys as readily.

What the TC may not realize is that KH-3D is not a sequel to KH2 -- it's not "KH3". It's just yet another side game in the series.

^It is a sequel. It's events of the characters in KH after KH2 ends. Just because it doesn't have a fancy number next to it doesn't make it the next story in the series. It's the sequel no matter how you define it. Re-Coded was one too also, like it or not.

Assasin's Creed Brotherhood and Revelation all happen after AC2 and expand the story but don't have the "3" attached on them. But if you skipped 2 and went straight to 3, you'd be a bit confused. Those are sequels as well.

3D's a sequel the same way CoM was, though it has even less self contained plot. It's all about setting up KH3 really, to the point where the credits actually spell out, letter by letter, "This leads to Kingdom Hearts 3".

Re:Coded's not really a sequel. It takes place after KH2, but it doesn't really cover anything related to the plot. Except the secret ending, but that information is recapped less than 20 minutes into 3D. Though Maleficent does make a mention of the game in her one scene in 3D, but I can't tell if that was setting up something for KH3 (possible, but that game is already sounding crowded), or if she just said it so that the Chronicle for Re:Coded would unlock.

Eitherway, I enjoyed KH3D. It over does the pet mechanic, felt short on worlds (7 total, each much larger than any other KH game though), and it's plot was massively end-heavy, but the game was pretty enjoyable. The way it handles the Command Deck was much better than BBS or Coded, though it's connection to the pets had it's ups and downs. And I ended up really liking the Drop system. It made having multiple characters work much better than BBS, and you could also completely counter it if you didn't like it. Same with Flowmotion, found it a lot of fun, but it's never required for those that don't.

Traffic on this board has been speculating on a "KH3" since KH2's first release.

There is no KH3. No announcement has ever been made. (Every claim otherwise that I've followed up on, to date, has been Nomura acknowledging fan wants and wishes; nothing more.) Instead (the "one a year" argument), we get side games, "re:" issues, and now "remixes" to boot.

If the events of those side games -- the events themselves that take place within those games' stories -- take place after KH2's story's ending, it'd be the first I've heard. I'm still on avoidance, very much worth noting, but the few images I've chanced upon showed KH-aged Sora and company. So corrections -- without story or gameplay tidbits -- are more than welcome.

3D's a sequel the same way CoM was

KH-COM precedes KH2's release and KH-COM's events take place prior to KH2's main story. KH-COM (or its "re:" issue, KH-ReCOM) is not a sequel to KH2.

If today's Poll of the Day is in any way accurate, over half of GF's members still live with their parents, and it's disillusioning those children I'm wary of. Please hyphenate "KH-3D" or use "KH-DDD" because "KH3D" could inadvertantly mislead young readers.

DDD takes place after KH2. It's set 12 years after BBS, so 2 years after KH1. Considering the event of KH1 and 2 took time, this puts it not that long after KH2. They also make reference to certain events at the end of KH2 to make it clear.

As for why they look the way they do, that's Yen Sid's doing. Though, I'll admit that the reason given for the de-aging makes no sense. The out-of-universe reason is that the game makes several nods to it being the 10th anniversary.

is not a sequel to KH2.

Sorry, that's a bad habit of mine. Leaving bits off of my sentence. Let me fix it: "[DDD]'s a sequel [to KH2] the same way CoM was [to KH1]."
