One of two problems there. Either the laser is dying/dead or the lens is dirty.

If it's a slim PS2, you can easily clean the lens. If it's a fat, you have to actually take it apart to clean it.

Google for "ps2 lens cleaning" and you'll find all of the info you need.

Quick question that's bugged me forever - when is the proper time to remove/insert a memory card? I've always done this while the PS2 is on, and at the 'browser' screen.

Sorry if its been posted before. but my question is, why are the earlier PS2 games purple or blue on the bottom. Are the games designed differently because of it, or is it just an aesthetic choice?

Tomorrow I'm going to open up my PS2 and muck about with the laser -- I'm getting a DRE with my Action Replay -- hoping it works. Thx for the instructions, man.
I have followed many guides for re-aligning the lazer on an older ps2, and it doesn't seem to stop the Disk read errors. Its not just on blue disks, just over the years ive had it, the system has randomly stopped playing some of the disks, and now it won't play any.

Since adjusting the lazer doesn't seem to fix it, is there any other advice I can be given?
