Looking for a fighting game with specific criteria...

1. No blood

2. No terribly immodest woman (ie, Soul Calibur 2)

3. Easy to get into. In other words, friendly for button mashers

Try Tekken 5, King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match, Virtua Fighter 4 Evo and Urban Reign.

All have a high skill ceiling, but they're easy to get into. As for immodesty, if anything in any of these games would offend you, you are probably very, very easily offended. None of these games even approach soul caliber Ivy or Taki levels, haha.

Urban Reign is tough and I probably wouldn't recommend it to button mashers. If you can get good at it though, it's an extremely awesome game.

What are some key differences between KoF, Virtua Fighter, and Tekken?

Virtua Fighter is pretty technical. It's a 3d fighter and the advanced moves can be tough to pull off. It doesn't really use the street tighter "quarter circle" and "half circle" movements on the controller. I actually played VF4 today on an SD television and it has aged badly. Whoops!

Tekken 5 has aged much more gracefully, it still looks downright beautiful in places. It's also easier to play. Not pressing anything on the controller enables an auto-block. So right off the bat you don't have to worry as much about blocking. Each face button corresponds to a body part. Right hand, left hand, left leg, right leg. You can combine these buttons with each other and with directions for different attacks.

King of Fighters is a very technical yet very easy to get into 2D fighting series. It features a lot of flamboyant characters and crazy powers. There's very little projectile spam in the average KoF title. The game gives you a ton of tools, but basic kicks and punches are always effective. '98 Ultimate Match has a huge character roster and it looks very nice for a 2D pixel-art game. Stages are bright and colorful, and have multiple phases they go through as the match wears on. The great wall of china level is awesome. A lot of characters have an alternate form you can choose, with a completely different moveset. The controls are similar to a Street Fighter game.

If the audience for the game is very, very young, you might be better off looking at a game like War of the Monsters or one of those godzilla fighting games. Or maybe the Gundam Federation vs Zeon series. I dunno.

Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 comes to mind by me. Spent every weekend playing it when I was 11 until my copy of it broke down. ;(
Amazing 3d arenas, great gameplay, easy combos, AMAZING Ultimate Attacks.
Just perfect.

(But now I'm a bit more realistic and I play Tekken 5 like a friggin' boss.')

Legend of Legaia, it's for PS1, but extremely fun and a great game, plus it plays on PS2. Try Legaia 2: Duel Sega if you want a great PS2 game though.
