Didn't really mean to do another double week, but it just kind of worked out that way. I finally fulfilled some requests! Here we go: Mongol 4/5 The first installment of a foreign-made trilogy on the life of Genghis Khan. Now, this was not without some faults: the entire plot consists of Temudgin being captured, escaping, and being recaptured, until the plot gives him an army and he defeats his enemies thanks to an act of God (no, really, I'm not making that up). But it doesn't matter. It's sweeping, it's epic, it's filmed on location in Mongolia. It's a goddamned beautiful movie. Speed Racer 3/5 By popular demand, meaning Rell. Having not watched the show or a solid basis in anime whatsoever, I think I missed out on a lot of potential this movie had...nevertheless, I had a great time watching it. And while the young casting seemed a little...bland (the *** kid from Milk and the girl who was in Casper a million years ago?) it was balanced out by a return of the Voice of London and ninja John Goodman. My goodness. Speaking of Milk... Milk 3/5 A little taken aback by this, but that's probably a good thing. Learned a thing or two from the biopic, and thought all the acting was great. (Josh Brolin even more menacing without the beard he had in Planet Terror) However, was unimpressed by the merely average editing and cinematography. Being John Malkovich 3/5 At Dissonant's request. I thought it was an entertaining little film and can see its significance, though I didn't love it personally. I do love John Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich, though. Return of the Living Dead 2/5 Had its ups and downs. Having that one girl be naked the entire movie seems like a great idea in concept, but I think she was scarier alive than dead. And the winner: The Fall 5/5 An injured man tells a little girl a beautiful story, complete with surreal footage filmed at real world locations. Critics knocked this one for being boring, but I didn't notice or care - you're supposed to set yourself to this movie's pace, not the other way around. I couldn't find anything wrong with it and enjoyed it a lot for being both different and well-conceived, thus the full score. I'm gonna be gone for awhile...*sigh* But when I'm back I'll have time for more. Already partway through Red Dawn, boy is that a doozy. --- Wanna break away on the longest day
A couple of friends and I just got around to Speed Racer ourselves. The one friend and I were both decently familiar with the original anime (her moreso than me), the other two were all "What the **** is going on?!!?" Needless to say, the one friend and I enjoyed it a great deal more, although we all agreed that watching the movie while high would make one's brain explode. This is something you need to test when you're in college, bee tee dubs. Maybe not with weed, maybe something like a couple of drinks, but I'm thinking that movie can be turned from "something directed towards a very specific audience" into "DUDE THE COLORS HOLY ****" with the help of some substances. >.> As for Milk, which I loved...Average editing? I guess so, to be totally objective, but I was so caught up by the man's story I guess I didn't even really notice... --- Alarm sounds like: Whoop.
I have suggestions for you! I'm gonna suggest a ****load of movies and I'm sure you have seen many of them already, but here I go: A Beautiful Mind (Ok, you have seen this...) The Green Mile The Shawshank Redemption Donnie Darko Pan's Laberynth Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind Fight Club Forrest Gump Most of Hirashima's movies (I think you saw those as well) In Bruges Kill Bill 1 and 2 Amelie ( Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) Nuovo cinema Paradiso One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Requiem for a Dream Scarface Schindler's List Slumdog Millionaire The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (*sniff*) The Iron Giant The Lion King (duh) The Pursuit of Happyness Billy Elliot Changeling (although it has many many flaws) Children of Men The Counterfeiters Equilibrium La vita è bella La vie en rose Little Miss Sunshine Pulp Fiction Se7en The Aviator The Bucket List (not a great movie, but enjoyable nonetheless) The Pianist The Shining The Silence of the Lambs The Sixth Sense American Beauty Gandhi That should entertain you for a while <_< Even if you have seen most of those (which you very likely have), there most be at least a few =)
some day I'll watch Speed Racer while stoned. It's a pretty seldom occurrence for me, but next time I'll try to make this movie a priority. Last time I was high I watched 2001. I think I fell asleep in the middle, but I remember wondering if there was something wrong with the DVD player because the intro music seemed to last for hours. --- -Rell
Average editing? It was completely competent, just not special. And some of the camerawork seemed a little....unfocused. I'll respond to Nam's post when i get my Macbook tomorrow. (he listed some of my favorite movies) I'm at Mizzou jacking a public computer someone didn't log out of, since I don't have a key yet. Yeah, I'm addicted. But also bored since it's dark and my room mate hasn't shown up yet. --- Wanna break away on the longest day

From: Hadri | #008 Italian movie, a king of nostalgia. Good soundtrack. From: Hadri | #008 It is much better than what I originally expected. It's far from the traditional humour, not THAT predictable and original. You might (might...) be interested in Misery too. It's an ok movie with a creepy woman. And Big Fish in in my top 5. I think it's an excellent movie :P |
