Who has seen it?

10/10 movie, in my books.

one of the most purely entertaining movies I've seen in a very long time. Simple in terms of plot but with plenty of the characters acting like the characters.

I kind of like not having character arcs or really even that much of a plot arc. It was like the whole movie was the middle of another film.

But then of course when Dark Knight Rises comes out everyone will get to jerk off over how it was "intellectually stimulating" and more adult-like.

I have little desire to see TDKR, honestly. Of course, I'll still go see it, but I just haven't felt the hype.

I thought the movie had a pretty decent three-part-ness to it, and served as an absolutely frickin' fantastic climax to all the solo films that came before.

I'm torn between liking this or the first Iron Man more. I feel like Avengers may actually be so over-the-top awesome that it would actually be mentally taxing to rewatch it too many times, whereas the first Iron Man is still easy to pop in and kick back to.

But goddamn this was such a badass movie. Just like, everything everyone did was so awesome, I amused myself by thinking of tropers arguing forever about what the movie's crowning moment was because there was just too many, even Hawkeye actually got to do some cool things, and jesus christ the Hulk who might actually be my favorite part of the movie because anything he did was just incredible.

...I do want to see it again, but I literally fear that I will not be able to handle it again.

I actually didn't even intend that. And I mean every word of that sentence, Hulk was goddamn amazing.

I also want to mention -- but point out MAJOR FRICKIN' SPOILERS, just in case:

I just read an interview some site did with a certain actor, who said fans were worried about his character getting killed and he asked Joss Whedon what was up with that, and Whedon said "yeah, I've done that sort of thing before. Don't worry, you're safe."

Three guesses who this actor and character are.

Whedon you are such a dick.

Ehh, depends on the community. Action movie cinematography is all but dead but people will appreciate it for making summer action from fresh from a writer/director standpoint. That's what makes truly the franchise such a juggernaut, IMO. But yeah, overhyping is inevitable.

In comparison, most superhero movies are incredibly juvenile, by design. Does Whedon actually manage to avoid that or does he just run with it? I dunno about seeing this movie, I kind of turn up my nose at superheroes lately. I'm more interested in Brave and The Hobbit.

I want to be hyped up for Brave, but honestly I haven't seen anything about it that was worth getting excited about.

For Avengers, I was cautiously optimistic, but after seeing the film I'm definitely a believer. Pretty much corrected anything that was wrong with superhero movies (mostly that they sort of suck) and then ran with the momentum. It's nice to have a superhero film where the things that happen are cool, and the characters are memorable. It was like the whole movie was constructed out of making great moments.

^ What, you don't consider Scots being Scottish exciting? :P

But yeah, I wouldn't call Avengers high art or anything, it's not going to win any Oscars. But I found the writing to be much more clever than...pretty much any of the previous films in this universe, and you can tell there are definitely themes and development underwriting the surface. Someone just pointed out that there's a ton more depth to Tony and Bruce's relationship than it might appear to be on the surface, for instance.

It definitely leans more balls-to-the-wall action than not, and the good writing I'm thinking of may just be Whedon being his usual smartass self. But I find it hard to think of people who wouldn't enjoy it for one reason or another.

Of course, but movies like that are a solid RENT for me. There are a few I wouldn't trade my theater experience for anything else. Inception and Avatar on opening night, Lord of the Rings, stuff like that. Cultural-moment kind of movies. It's just that the superhero fad, Whedon or not, has been one long cultural moment that I can't b expected to keep up with completely. :P

Pixar. Cars 2 was so repellant to me I want to give it a chance. I haven't seen one of their movies in theatres since Up which is starting to be awhile ago.
