gts 250 run diablo 3?

#1SnipeStarPosted 5/28/2012 8:46:52 AM
so my friend bought diablo 3 thinking his prebuilt would run it with everything at the lowest... well.. it doesn't really lol

i have a GTS 250 laying around as a dedicated physx card, and i was gonna throw it to him to use temporarily so he can start playing. i was wondering if his pc/psu would suffice

his prebuilt is an hp p7-1020, looks like the psu is a 250w. also, i'm pretty sure his resolution is less than 1080

That's his desktop? And it won't run Diablo III at low settings? I don't see how it wouldn't.

Well, the gpu would definitely suffice for sub 1080 Diablo, but you're cutting it really close with that PSU. If you do decide to go that route, I would underclock it with Afterburner. What's his CPU? If it's a low wattage chip (lower end core 2 or something) then you're probably fine. I know you're not really looking for a money solution, but you're friend can't use your GPU forever, and if/when he decides to get a new GPU a 7750 could run on that easily.

i dunno i wasnt there when he installed it but he said with every setting at its lowest the game is basically a slideshow

so do you think the 250 can squeeze in on that psu?

Hm, with a phenom I don't think it would be safe to throw the 250 in there. You could still try underclocking it and giving it a whirl, I doubt the PSU would explode, probably just shut itself off.

Edit: I can't believe HP would put a Phenom II on a 250w PSU, that's really cutting it close. My old i3 gateway had a 250w PSU...

anyway what bout dat 250

I mean... My friend's HP laptop with an i3, 4 GBs of RAM and integrated GPU runs Diablo III on low settings. There's no way that desktop couldn't run it on low settings. He's doing it wrong.

Then there is something wrong with his setup or he doesn't have that computer with those specs.

A very game lacking ability of a laptop runs it decently at low settings. A much more capable desktop should be able to out perform it. Wouldn't you think?
