Is 1280x1024 any good for gaming?

it displays similar detail to the other common resolutions (1680x1050, 1920x1080), but you'll effectively have your edges cut off in terms of the amount of the world you can see

not the end of the world though

I just upgraded from that Resolution.
Played it for years before, 'twas great. Only upgraded due to the monitor dieing.

its really up to you, OP. I hate 3:4 monitors though, so i would definitely get atleast a 1600x900 monitor. you can get one for like $75 these days.

better than 1280x720 or 1600x900

I've used a 1280 x 1024 native res. 4:3 monitor for the last five and a half years. I'll keep using it till it conks out. It'll probably seem a bit weird using a widescreen monitor (but I'm sure I'll get used to it quickly enough).

Once you go widescreen, you never go back.

It isn't bad, just not ideal. If you already have it, just use it.

I used 1280x1024 until my parents surprised me with a 1600x900 for Christmas (my old monitor was dying anyway, I used that thing for like 8 years).
