XBox controllers are great if you like a gamepad that wasn't designed for the PC and thus doesn't natively support DirectInput. If you want an actual PC gamepad that's even better that supports both DirectInput and XInput natively then get a Logtiech F series gamepad. The F310 should be affordable for you: http://amzn.com/B003VAHYQY
The F710 is even better with wireless and rumble, though: http://amzn.com/B0041RR0TW

I would recommend paying a bit extra and opting for an official 360 gamepad. I've used one for PC gaming for the last seven-ish years, mainly for emulators and the occasional racing game, and it's been great.
