He's in the pharmaceutical business and he said he needs windows messenger or something for email and has to establish a VPN connection.

My first txt back was. "Why you'd buy a Macbook? (obvious smart*** txt to send)"

But seriously what should I tell him to do? Install Windows on the Mac? (He's PC illiterate) Or get the $1200 he paid for it back and get a alternative Laptop with Windows (I'm scared to tell him that because I've seen the bloatware that comes on some of these notebooks).

ask his employer to sponsor him a windows notebook... but srzzzzly how the heck did he get job which requires him to be pc-literate in the first place???

i would just fire him if i was his boss and his main job is very replaceable.

I'm in the world of the working life as well and it's absolutely amazing some of the things I see at my company. People that don't know how to answer a phone courteously, can't use email still, don't know how to find a printer or use Google to answer an obvious problem before bothering me.

He's a good guy though and I want to help him out. You think I could install windows on his Mac?

Just dual boot with windows. As much as I despise them for certain reasons, it's not as though they are completely without merit.

Of course. Installing windows on a mac is extremely easy to do through boot camp.

Show him how to set up an email client and connect to a VPN? The machine came with software for those things.

Now, if we'd just use postfix syntax like sensible people, this wouldn't even be an issue. -scudobuio

If you're worried about bloatware you could always tell him too look at the microsoft store website. Most of the laptops there are on sale and they're all good quality ones and have no bloatware installed.

Mercury Messenger lets you log into Windows Messenger on mac. Or boo camp. He does not need a new machine.
