Not sure what you mean by "the next Minecraft" though. They seem to be extremely different.

umm all FPS today pretty much owe it all to Doom/Wolf3D. So yea...

I'd say the fact that you can add/remove various blocks in a set cube grid draws a fairly solid parallel to Minecraft. That, and the developers' own comment that they drew inspiration from WarCraft III, Minecraft, and Halo for the game...
