What are the advantages of more expensive CPU's?

For example, the 2500K, over this one:

Pentium 850 will kick the snot out of that one at a similar cost. The 2500K is overclockable, so it can kick the snot out of the 2400, which is otherwise the same thing. And it's not that more expensive is necessarily better. Right now, Intel's 2nd cheapest CPU is better than AMD's most expensive when it comes to video games. And with Intel, you don't need an i7 for gaming, even though they cost more.

Steam sales. There are at least 9 every week, including mid week madness and weekend deals.

I'm just wondering what the advantages are... Because it seems like the processor I posted can max out lots of games just fine, provided the GPU is up to par, at 60 FPS.

People who say Intel is better are missing 60hz limitations. FX8 is most capable.

That's not telling me anything. I've seen people max out games at 60 FPS with X3 450.

I'm building a new PC build and I'm trying to convince myself why I should opt for the 2500K over the X3, even though it's $140 more expensive.

what's your budget anyway? the cpu's you ask about have nothing in common and the price gap is huge. what gpu are you getting? just an fyi, a 2500k and a gtx460 would perform better, especially at times of heavy load and minimum fps, than that X3 athlon and a 560ti.

I don't have a budget, but I'm trying to minimize costs. I'm planning to get a 7770 because it's silent and uses less power. I feel like a 2500K would be over kill. But I want to know how the 2500K would enhance my PC's performance over the X3, in terms of gaming. I honestly don't see how its $140 additional price tag is worth the extra 2-3 FPS.

Because the x3 is going to choke in any modern cpu intensive game.
