What are the advantages of more expensive CPU's?

I don't have a budget, but I'm trying to minimize costs. I'm planning to get a 7770 because it's silent and uses less power. I feel like a 2500K would be over kill.

you want an i3 2120.

Simple. If both CPUs hit the 60 floor, I'd rather have more multi core rendering,

$20 more than the Athlon x3 and a more capable processor to boot. For general computing you don't need more than 2 cores unless you plan to have a huge number of programs running. And even if you get the same performance in old games between the Ahtlon and Pentium, the Pentium is better for games that are coming out and/or poorly optimized games.

If you want to spend only $70, the G620 is still better than the Athlon. If you're getting an AMD processor the only ones that are at all cost effective for gaming are the Phemon black editions and the FX-4100, and that's just because it's the cheapest bulldozer and performs nearly as well as their 8 core.

That's not telling me anything. I've seen people max out games at 60 FPS with X3 450.

I'm building a new PC build and I'm trying to convince myself why I should opt for the 2500K over the X3, even though it's $140 more expensive.

Because the x3 is going to choke in any modern cpu intensive game.

Looks fine to me:

Yeah, CryEngine 3 is an incredibly optimized beast. I can play Crysis 2 on my desktop with my 5670 and Pentium D. I can't, however, get a good framerate in Tribes Ascend or Firefall. And it's not my 5670 causing the issue. And those aren't exactly the prettiest games around.

Either this is a trolling topic or just another person that can't take advice...

The Athlon X3 will choke and die on any modern CPU-heavy game. (StarCraft II, for example)
It's also going to dip down into the sub-60 range on a lot of games that aught to be downright easy to run. On the other hand, the 2500k will run everything out today considerably better than the Athlon X3, and is going to scale infinitely better to games out in the next few years.
Athlon X3 can't run a lot of games at 60+fps already. It's not going to magically improve when the next console generation rolls around.

Even though the game runs in 720p, it produces another 480p stream for the New Controller. That's like 1200p!

I don't think I've seen any benchmarks to ever suggest this though.
