kemPhReAkPosted 5/31/2012 1:25:20 PM | Ok. I have a decent video card : HD 6950
Low end CPU: First generation i3
How should I upgrade the CPU? Should I go for a new mobo to get a newer CPU? Or should I keep the same mobo and get first gen i5 or i7? What would be the most cost effective? --- "everything is the same size, just depends how far you sit from them" - _Elite_Bushido_ |
DeathScythe_527Posted 5/31/2012 1:32:10 PM | Not sure if the i3 is lga 1155. If it isn't, pick up an 1155 board and an i5-3570. --- i5-3450 Ivy Bridge @3.1 (3.5) | Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 | Team Elite 4GB DDR3 @1333 | BIOSTAR H61MGC | 200GB Western Digital HDD | Samsung 55" 1080p |
60secondAssasinPosted 5/31/2012 1:33:14 PM | what motherboard do you currently have? --- "There is nothing new under EA." - Fony http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2363251 |
reincarnator07Posted 5/31/2012 2:55:20 PM | First gen i3s were on 1156 iirc, which means you will need a new motherboard in order to upgrade to sandy/ivy bridge --- Fan of metal? Don't mind covers? Check out my youtube and give me some feedback http://www.youtube.com/sircaballero |
link510Posted 5/31/2012 3:01:15 PM | If you can overclock your i3 then I wouldn't upgrade yet unless you can find a 1st gen i5 for cheap. Don't get an 1156 i7, it's basically just an i5 with hyperthreading) or a 6xx i5 as it's dual core. |
kemPhReAk (Topic Creator) Posted 5/31/2012 3:18:55 PM | I have an 1156 mobo
but heres the thing, if i want the new icore cpu's I'd have to change both mobo and CPU (to 1155 mobo).
Or should I keep the mobo i have and get a first generation i5 or i7? --- "everything is the same size, just depends how far you sit from them" - _Elite_Bushido_ |
godplaysSNESPosted 5/31/2012 3:22:14 PM | IMO, get a 1156 i5/i7 CPU if you can find one...They are still good, and a mobo + CPU upgrade would be quite alot more expensive --- Super Mario Kart is the single best Mario Kart ever! Won't get Battlefield 3 until all DLC is included |
