The game is still going to be using GFWL. FromSoftware isn't a PC developer. They are a 100% console developer.
The only reason they're porting the game to the PC is because of a petition to do so.
Dark Souls itself is built around consoles, for consoles, by a console developer. The game is going to be a straight up console game and the 360 controller is going to be the best way to play it on the PC. Period.
They're using Microsofts 360 to PC conversion kit because they don't know how to make a proper PC game. And the game needs some form of centralized online. Instead of re-writing it to work on Steamworks they can just use the Xbox 360 version of the game, using Xbox 360's multiplayer platform.
The being said, the game is fantastic. I've played it a few times, but I don't own a console. I can finally play it from start to finish. But I have no delusions that it's going to be more than a direct console port. My 360 controller is ready. --- http://i.imgur.com/Mqy7G.gif

They made the game available for purchase on Steam but it still uses Games for Windows Live instead of Steamworks. This is a major problem that most casual PC gamers aren't going to understand until it's too late.
