Reckon my rig can hold up till Skymont comes out in 2016?

Psh, I'm letting my Core 2 Duo run until Haswell.

Logically fixed.
Haswell is going to be a huge step forward.

I said Skylake and I meant Skylake.

You might be able to squeeze until 2016. GPU might need replacement sooner, since AMD on system requirements typically has a 4 year cycle or so (meaning system requirements will begin to require the 7000 series around 2015-2016). You might be able to squeeze it out.

When I built my rig in 2010, I logically expected it to last to 2014. I'm not sure when I will need to upgrade to be honest, seeing how it still runs everything I want it to quite well (even my laptop gets satisfactory performance by my standards for most games). So I might keep it for longer. Depends how much tech advances in the next few years. i still expect it to guide easily to 2014 though, and maybe a little longer than that. I mean, 2007 rigs still run games decently.

The graphic card usually doesn't last very long. My old 5870 couldn't run crysis in a playable state in ultra at 1080p. It was fine on most games.

I upgraded to the 7970. It should be fine for at least 2 years.

Wasn't a Pentium D basically 2 Prescott cores stapled together?

The Pentium D was alright when it was released. More of a "Because we Can" than for anything practical. But, hey, it's the first dual core, what can you expect. At least I replaced the 6200 with turbocache that this thing came with. I would love to upgrade to a Core2 duo at least but this motherboard never got any updates released for it, so it's unsupported.

I really need to get $270 together. That'll net me a Pentium G850 build, minus the card and HDD, but I can live using my old one, even if it is slower. But alas, it's hard to get a job in San Diego when you have no work experience and have to get them to accept that school is more important than work.

Join the Navy, become an Officer. Never worry about a lack of applicable work experience ever again.

I prefer to think they used duct tape, but yeah. It's 2 pentium 4s.

It is still better than pentium 4s.

Indeed! But since the game on my steam list which has more than double the next most on the list is Killing Floor, which is basically UT2k4 with classes and zombies, I don't need anything new for a bit. I need to pick up the Bioshock games sometime, because I really don't want to play the 360 copy of Bioshock 2 that I already have.

AMD's first dual-core was 2 years earlier. And it was designed from scratch.

Fun fact: AMD is stuck with Bulldozer until Skylake/Skymount. Intel will already be past Ivybridge and Haswell/Maxwell in that time.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I love it how AMD is first to do it, and then Intel copies it and snags all the sales. I'd rather support a company that cares about it's customer base then some company looking at what the other guy does and tries to deliver first w/ a sub-par product.
