What Resolution Is Better?

#1EpicKingdom_Posted 6/2/2012 12:57:26 AM
1440x900 or 1280x720?

You would think 1440x900 right? Well here's the thing, I play @1440x900 on my 17" monitor but sometimes I use my 32" TV as a monitor @ 1280x720 which by far out does my 17" @ 1440 but isn't 1440 a higher number then 1280 & 900 higher then 720, therefor shouldn't 1440 be better then the 1280 one? (Sorry if this is confusing, I am just wondering).

1440x900 is a higher resolution, yes. You're going to get more individual points of detail on it. Your 1280x720 TV probably just looks better to you because it's a big TV that's big, or something like that.

Even though the game runs in 720p, it produces another 480p stream for the New Controller. That's like 1200p!

So is that why Fraps is showing me a higher FPS rate on my 32" 1280x720 then if I was on my 17" 1440x900?

So size doesn't matter, I always thought that my 32" at it's native res was better, must be like you said, personal preference, it's more colorful & size idk. I was thinking about getting a 1920x1080 monitor, I fear how that would do w/ some games & my rig.
(BC2, Crysis, Metro, Deus Ex, WIC, Shogun 2 etc).

Also your TV probably has a better panel than your monitor.

Higher resolution is heavier on the resourcers, so you'll get more fps at a lower resolution.

Most monitors use TN which is on the low end of panel types.

Or I just thought of, the TV has HDMI (duh) unlike my 17" (VGA).

The higher framerate is because lower resolutions are easier to run.
The TV may very well be more colourful.
HDMI isn't going to make much of a difference over VGA. You might get some minor grain with VGA, but unless something is bork, that's it.
Your videocard probably can't handle 1920x1080 very well at all.

Ouch:/
I might reconsider even getting it.

Because I like that I can get away w/ maxing or running better settings for games, I'd only assume if I'd get that monitor things (settings) will have to decrease.

(EDIT): What if I upgrade to a 6870? ? & & would a 6870 easily replace my current? (fit right in my specs etc, first build, still a little new).
