First PC Build for $500-700

What's truly sad is this is the first time in years when I've seen someone suggesting that a ton of karma is somehow any metric for post quality. Karma is relatively useless once you get just enough to have access to GameFAQs forum features.

I ended up arriving to an i3 due to similar conclusions from benchmarks. The thing is, if I wanted more power, instead of going towards an overclockable AMD-cpu configuration which needs a more expensive motherboard and aftermarket cooler, you can direct that same amount of money instead towards a locked i5, which at that point performs in a different league altogether compared to most AMD cpus.

60secondAssasin: That Skyrim graph is silly because neither line is acceptable; it has 8X FSAA turned on; switching to 2X FSAA would improve the framerate greatly. Also, SC2 is CPU-bound; he could get even better performance by getting a poor GPU. Then he'd be in trouble for every game that focuses on GPU performance. But thanks for using 2 graphs out of over 20 to try to make a point. The rest have the fx-4100 (at stock) and the i3 tied.

DiehardFFv2: lololol you'd pay $20 to take my account if you had the opportunity.

bold #1: lower the settings huh? nevermind the fact that the cpu with twice the cores, 3 times the cache and a 500mhz clock speed advantage is getting minimum fps that are 10fps lower. cool. got it.

bold #2: performance for the cpu stays the same at high preset using a 6770, 6850 and 6950. try again?

bold #3: like I said, the i3 2100 is equal OR better.

lolol using Anand Bench

How about using a real comparison article?
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fx-4100-core-i3-2100-gaming-benchmark,3136.html

This is why I told you to downgrade the CPU to an fx-4100: because the i3's extra horsepower is mostly irrelevant when you look at those gaming graphs. And even then, you can OC the FX-4100 to 4.5ghz.

But okay, you can listen to Intel fanboy noobs with <1000 karma and waste your money. Yes, the Intel chips are better, but you don't need one for your budget system. I am trying to give you the best GPU possible along with an SSD while downgrading the rest of the parts to serviceable level in order to hit your $650 target.

all that article shows is that in any setup where the gpu willb e the bottleneck then the fx will be equal to the i3... uhh no ****

I see his point, he's trying to save me money, and in a budget set up where I will have a gpu that will most likely bottleneck me, having the FX be equal to the i3 means saving money.

It's a moronic idea to save $15 for greatly reduced min fps and overall smoothness. The cpu is the central processing unit after all, I don't know why you would want to cheap out on something so important. Also some of the things gipface has said borders on trolling, so I really wouldn't take him too seriously.

Hey wait, wait. One thing wasn't really mentioned yet, since this is a first-time build

What about your monitor? Do you have a decent one that will actually showcase the power of the tower you're trying to build?

Yeah I do. One thing I'm curious about will I be able to have three monitors hooked up to this thing, I don't really know what the cables are called. I've been able to do two monitors and that's fine. Just as long as I can have multiple screens.

Now I know you're special. I wouldn't pay anything for your account and if this thread is indicative of how you post and the name you've made for yourself over the past 11 years, you couldn't pay me to take your account. If I was going to stoop so low as to actually buy a GameFAQs account, I wouldn't waste time with yours, you're not even on the top 50. You're a nobody that thinks you're a somebody because of a number that stops mattering after 75 apart from a select few boards that barely anyone goes to.

You can connect multiple monitors, but don't plan on gaming on all of them simultaneously.

Oh nice, I've been always curious to do a 3 monitor setup, but never bothered to since My desk and living space couldn't come close to supporting it.

But if you do plan to do triple monitor (what resolution for them?), do you plan to have the games span all 3, or do you have just a main monitor for gaming? Depending on your answer, a slightly different GPU might be suggested, but I don't recall offhand.
