Going to college soon, want a laptop for about 900 to 1000 dollars.
Recommendations? Also preferably for gaming and sturdy.

Good gaming capabilities, stylish chassis, lightweight for a laptop of this caliber at 5.2lbs and pretty good battery life at 3-5 hours due to optimus.

My friend recommends a thinkpad T520 with the discrete graphics because it's 'indestructible' according to him. Comments?

ThinkPads are great and built like tanks... but you're not going to get much out of one in terms of gaming.
