Ordering the parts for my first computer build today and I was wondering if hard drives, dvd drives, etc come with the necessary cables or do they need to be ordered separately? Thanks!

OEM does not.
Boxed or retail does.

It's uhhh, in a box? OEM usually ships in bubble wrap or something cheap and small so it is easy to do mass shipments.

But how do I know it'll come in a box when I order it off a website?

It usually will be specified. If all else fails, if it's not in the picture, you probably won't get it.

Some motherboards come packaged with SATA cables.
