Should I buy a controller to play Mass Effect?

I'm thinking about buying Mass Effect and I'm wondering if I need a controller or will the keyboard and mouse be fine?

Genesis does what Nintendon't.

I used a M&KB for all 3 and didn't have any problems, I even first beat 1 on the 360 at launch and didn't have much trouble adapting. The controls work pretty well, I thought and in the latter games I'd much rather have a mouse for the shooting anyway.

None of the Mass Effect games have built in controller support.

Keyboard and mouse is better for every single game out on a the market. Yes, even Wii games.

if you use a controller you would have to pause the game constantly to use different abilities so no

I hate this statement. Analog control for movement is far superior in many games. The only advantage a keyboard has over a controller is the number of buttons available, while a controller is far more comfortable and more intuitive. A mouse is obviously better for camera control, aiming, etc. than an analog stick, though. Mass Effect can be played fine on KB&M because you move like a tank anyway, and the shooting is easier with a mouse. FPS games are better with KB&M, as are many RPGs or other games where many specific actions are convenient to have mapped to a specifc key. Platformers, particularly those that support more than 8 directional movement, are hell on a keyboard compared to using a controller. Games like Arkham Asylum and Assassins Creed also really suck to play on a keyboard. Sure, it's doable, but it's so much nicer to use a controller for them.
