I'm about to buy the 3930 from Intel Retail Edge, however I'm a bit concerned if the LGA 2011 are future proof or not. My current build is LGA 1156 i5 processor, and that wasn't future proof, and plus I'm over due for an upgrade. I'm contemplating on either using the 3930 and buy a new mobo, or selling it, and purchasing an Ivy-bridge.

I doubt it, intel freaking loves to change sockets.

How are you due? 1156 i5 still runs well, just OC and buy a new GPU.

For my 3930, I was contemplating on either of these: Asus Sabertooth x79, or Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3... thoughts?

My thoughts: Why do you need a 3930?

punji: My i5 dropped drastically on the benchmarks since I first built my system, and plus I'd be getting the 3930 for cheap, so why not?

Lemur: Same reason why you need 2 video cards.

Two video cards actually helps. A 3930 won't offer much for a gamer.

EDIT: Not really familiar with this program, can you really get the CPU for $200?

My thoughts: Who cares? Even if he doesn't need the 3930K's power, it's only $195. No reason for the TC to get another CPU that's weaker and more expensive.

It isn't any more future-proof than LGA 1155. Haswell will use LGA 1150 and that'll be the end of both 1155 and 2011. Not sure yet if Haswell will use 1150 and something else that's not out yet, but it won't be 2011.
