My current laptop: 258MB RAM, 30GB HDD, Intel Pentium M740 Processor 1.73GHz...

533 MHz FSB, 802.11b/g - Windows XP.

This laptop is around 10 years old, and better still it's only on loan to me. I may have to give it back soon. It's laggy, freezes up often, won't load a lot of programs, it disconnects a lot, and recently started to bluescreen. So I need to get a new one, but I'm not sure which would be better.

What I use my laptop for: MSN/AIM/Skype/Pidgin, Voice and Video calls, general web browsing, College work ect. I'd also like to play a few games like Minecraft, which is pretty much impossible on my current laptop.

Also worth noting I'm on a tight budget, saving up and currently have ~100/$153, will have 300/$461 or so within 2.5 months, but I'm slightly pushed for time since I don't really wanna be without any laptop at all with exams coming up.

The two laptops I'm not sure between:

Asus X54C-BBK15- 4GB Memory - 320GB Hard Drive - Intel Pentium 2.2 GHz - 802.11N - Windows 7 Home Premium.
Price: 214/$329.99

ASUS X54C-NS92 - 6GB Memory - 320GB Hard Drive - Intel Pentium 2.2GHz - 802.11N - Windows 7 Home Premium.
Price: 280/$429.99

Opinions or advice? Would be a great help, thanks in advance.

Get the first one. IT's $100 cheaper but effectively will do what you want in the same way. If you are going to use it for standard stuff no point in spending an extra $100.

Unless you use Video editing programs the extra RAM isn't neeeded.

Also i'm guessing both have Intel HD 1000 or 2000 GFX crds?

The more expensive one does, the cheaper one says "Graphics Card: UMA". Not gonna pretend I understand that.

Main thing I want is to be able to run Minecraft and messengers at the same time. That's the most resource hogging thing I need it to be capable of, really. Do either or both work for that?

Well I hear Minecraft is pretty resource intensive (hogs lot's of power) because it isn't very well optimized.

Also,

Though you may be able to get something better if you keep an eye out for sales. I got a good laptop with an i5 CPU and gt540M GPU for $550 on newegg during Christmas sales.

minecraft has the s***iest optimization I have ever seen. I use an e450 and it runs it at... playable frames... barely. Though the pentium is probably better, it would be better for you to invest in some beefier specs so it lasts.

What? Dude, your processor is weak. Of course it has trouble.

TC, with what you're wanting to do, I'd skip an Intel laptop. Go with something with an AMD A6 processor. It's weaker than the Pentium, but it beats out Intel's GPU.

I know it is weak, so is the pentium when compared to others, I was merely pointing at the fact that this processor has successfully maxed some games, but minecraft has terribad optimization.

My AMD E-350 handles Minecraft just fine after the initial few seconds. Keep minecraft up-to-date, use java x64 and keep that up to date, close background programs...and seriously to all you guys with Integrated Radeons (excluding dual graphics users), UPDATE TO AMD MAINSTREAM DRIVERS.

A Pentium B950 GPU is around the HD 6320 in a AMD E-450, but with a better CPU. Minecraft will run well.

BTW, Minecraft is written in Java, I think they're doing OK with the optimization so far considering.

Alright, thanks guys.

Can I get some thoughts on these two:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230265

These are both in my price range and seem pretty decent...gotta admit I've fallen in love with the second one, but looking at the reviews there are a lot of issues with it. The First one seems to have few minor complaints.
