Help me understand the hate.

I feel like I'm about to walk into the loins den, but here goes.

What's with all the hate for Battlefield 3's Premium? Before you say, "I already paid $60 for the game and they want me to play more to play now", you do know all the 'Premium' thing is is a pre-order for the Expansion packs right? It would be like saying how dare Firaxis come out with this Gods and Kings add-on for Civ 5 now they want more of my money Rage!!!!

If you don't think it's worth your money then don't get it and if you think you will hit your money/fun ratio then get it. I think one of the biggest reasons it's seeing the level of hate that it is, is from the name. Call it Premium acc., Season Pass, or Elite group of people that paid more, all it means it a pre-order for the expansions.

Or if I'm seeing it wrong let me know but please if you just can't post without crying, whining, or trying to start a fight there's no need to post.

It's just nickel and dime exhaustion.

IMO, game companies should have stuck with the paid expansion formula rather than nickel and dime DLC. I never knew anyone who got upset or frustrated about expansions, because they were loads of extra content - sometimes virtually a whole new game - without having to pay full price.

The problem that people have with it is the perception that all of this is pre-planned. It's the "Well put X things in the game when we ship, but we'll hold off on selling Y until 3 months or so from now." People believe that they're intentionally holding back content just for the sake of milking more out of the game later. And that's not even getting into DLC that's discovered to be on the disc.

And by the way, I don't disagree with you. PC Games have done expansion packs FOREVER which is essentially the same damn thing. Release the game, and then 6 months to a year later release an add-on that puts more in the game. This has been common practice on the PC for a long time, I really don't know why people have such an issue with add-on DLC. Releasing new content after the game is released isn't a new business practice.

Having said that, I can most definitely understand people raging at what Capcom charges for extra costumes in their fighting games. That pretty much sickens me. But it sickens me even more that people actually pay for it, which just tells Capcom that it's A-OK to do. Consumers have to share the blame too.

Yea, but there isn't a fee to play. It's more like, there's more if you want to pay more. Trust me I would Love it as much as anyone if it was like it was in the old days where you could download maps players made and add them to your server for all but sadly those days are gone.

This I can see alittle more why pay whatever for alittle bit of In-Game Content and acouple maps? Again, this comes down to if you think you will get your money out of it go for it. I mean you know what you are buying before you get it. Games make these for a reason. Alot of people seem to think it is worth it.

Speaking of this, how much were the Battlefield 2 "Expansions" when they came out, in contrast to how much "New" content they brought to the game?

Because..honestly...$15 for 4(?) maps and 10 guns that aren't exactly all that different from EXISTING guns (Because everyone would cry about them being "Unbalanced" if they were the least bit different) seems a bit steep. Especially if the person buying had ALREADY dropped $60 on the game.

I got into the game for $30 and took a chance on buying B2K for $7.50, and I honestly can't say the DLC was all that worth it over the main game. Besides the now marginally broader range of servers I can enter. The content itself isn't awe-inspiring, or game changing in the least; Almost seems like the kind of thing that there was a time it would have been patched in as FREE content to show developer support of the game and keep players coming on board.

The "Premium" thing is just a lump sum payment for already pretty expensive content (Talking $110 to get the game at retail and "Premium" package), on an online game you have no way of know for *certain* it will still be worth playing in six or eight months when they finally get the next couple pieces of DLC launched.
