I don't think those are effective when you put a contaminated item in them.

?

They're made to keep static out. If you put it in a bag, I'm pretty sure it will just be a static oven.

Ever heard of common sense?

Two options I can think of are:
1) Buy an anti-static bag.
2) Get the item insured during shipment so if something does go wrong you can claim of the company, but I am not sure if this would be claimable since it may not count as being 'properly packaged'.

In the past I have never shipped items but when want to store stuff and I don't have an anti-static bag I just put them in a box and put bubble wrap around it. Not the safest method but so far nothing has gone wrong.

I just used a paper bag. Done it before and went ok. I think this is what XFX (if I remember correctly) recommends when you send them a video card and do not have a anti-static bag to put it in.

Though to be fair, I have never had anything break from static even when I was really young and had no idea that static could mess things up. So I may be a little less careful then others.

static is overrated... I leave crap sitting on carpet for days, weeks and its ok.
