is that a regular temperature for an i7 2600k? Its running on the stock cooler on auto, which i wont be using for long though

That's pretty terrible. My 2500k stays idle at around 29c overclocked to 4.8ghz.

make sure the cooler is installed properly. also, is it possible you forgot to plug in the fan? my friend did that with his 2700k and idle temps were in the 50c range for a few minutes before he realized the fan wasn't spinning. the stock cooler sucks, but not that much.

cooler is installed fine...i did not add any more thermal paste than what came on the heatsink itself. the fan is plugged in and works
