my GPU is at 73C right now, only things open are firefox (3 tabs), speedfan, steam (no games) and Windows live messenger...it's also rather hot in my room atm (dropped to 68 now, just got done playing a game)

my GPU is a 470 GTX

Sounds fine. Run a program like HWmonitor in the background while gaming. If the max temperature gets over 85 then that is a little warm. Over 95? Dangerzone.

keep in mind that was minutes after playing a game, now that it's been closed for awhile the temp is down to 58

If it doesn't go higher than 95C then don't worry about it.

my computer idles, at 40C, and someone said thats kinda high, and his is at 30C.

Idle as in light usage, web browsing/music.

You have a high voltage 470 probably.

If you have hardware acceleration enabled on Firefox, that'll actually raise your temps.

You're probably not using MSI afterburner or evga precision or whatever other programs you can use to increase the fan speed.
