Glorious. I have managed to acquire my first ever virus.

#1stu300189Posted 6/11/2012 5:10:13 PM
I noticed that MSE was showing my PC to be "At Risk" so i opened it up and attempted to do a scan. A message popped up saying that the service was not running. So i uninstalled and reinstalled MSE. During the scan it mentioned that it had found something known as "Sirefef.Y" and that it was now removing it but as it did that another error messae popped up saying that windows was restarting in one minute due to a critical error.

Now every time the computer restarts, MSE attempts to remove the trojan and the trojan laughs at it and restarts my computer. The only way to keep the computer from restarting is to battle with the task manager and keep the MSE process closed.

Malwarebytes has found nothing.

I googled the virus and i get a metric f***ton of forum posts from the last week about this beast with minimal answers.

Feels bad, man.

How about them new macs?

try deleting it from the registry, so it does not start with the computer and delete it manually.

I've got a feeling that that this post isn't really all that helpful.

Its poorly writtten, but the advice in it is good for the future. Imagine the / is a space and google search them, there useful protection software.
My solution, because im lazy, would be just wipe your drive and reinstall windows.
Have you tried enabling safe mode and deleting it from there? (F8 during startup- before the windows spash screen just tap the key until it works..)

I know what he means it's just that it was irrelevant to what was going on right now. I already use adblock.

Yes, i've tried safemode. Same deal. MSE runs, detects the trojans, CRITICAL ERROR, restarts in 60 seconds.

Apologies if i'm sounding a bit dickish, but it's late and i'm annoyed >.<

Try this. Someone on this board suggested it days ago, when someone else had a virus problem.
