thaandieselPosted 6/24/2012 9:42:24 AM | streaming games FTW, now everyone can enjoy those high end graphics, provided you have a strong internets. the next consoles will be beast, and like the current gen, will be old tech considering, but making a impact. pc wont completely die, but wont be general purpose like today, imho. --- <- Q9550@3.3 - G31M - Hyper 212+ - 4 gig 1066 - GTX 470 650mhz - xfi 5.1 usb - turtle beach HPA2 true 5.1 - 64 gig Mushkin SSD -> |

Citizen 76089432211, The Game was good yesterday
Citizen 9999991123890, Yes, The Game was good
Citizen 76089432211, Yes. The Game will be good tonight

No specific memories of actual gameplay will be retained once the session ends.
I imagine the last surviving 'traditional gamer' will be exterminated in 2127 or thereabouts.
Or maybe not......... arcades were exterminated already. there are warehouses with old arcade cabs and people still try to rebuild them. I read an article of a guy who tries to restore Dayton USA. even then there will be an underground resistance movement, not willing to accept microchip implants. They even have a copy of the banned game Crusader: No Regret and have the Silencer as their trademark. --- Q.You want so see some other stuff? What Console? A.Console? Q.What platform? Fade2black001Posted 6/25/2012 5:32:39 AM | Wasn't the price of the PS3( when it was first released) around 800 bucks? For that price one could of gotten a really nice PC system for that. I would think next gen's console wont be any cheaper either but who knows. --- We're Americans! We don't quit just because we're wrong. We just keep doing the wrong thing until it turns out right. |
PFGeraciPosted 6/25/2012 5:48:30 AM | Economics and convenience will dictate that consoles will always exist in some form. No matter how much cheaper PC parts might get, a console is always relatively cheaper. --- I had bread, I had cheese, and I had an iron. What was I supposed to do? |

If consoles died, games would be cheaper to develop and there would be more freedom for developers. Of course, it would be more chaotic, but I think it would be worth it. |
elite5472Posted 6/25/2012 5:13:03 PM (edited) | I'm positive that consoles won't last two more generations.
Because in 10 years, maybe even a cellphone will be able to provide the gaming experience we have today. Developers want less and less to mess with low-level programming, and want high-end APIs instead.
Microsoft wants to integrate their whole ecosystem, it is not unreasonable to think that the new XBox will use Windows NT and the latest Direct X APIs, that means that in the near future the PC market is likely to see console games running natively (without porting) and with pretty much the same experience as the xbox.
That however, also means that we will be less likely to get extensive support for pc features like more configuration options. Games will likely scale to whatever resolution you're using and that will be the end of it.
This sets a scary precedent to Sony, which has neither a consistent ecosystem like MS nor the sales numbers that Nintendo currently boasts. I see Nintendo lasting longer, but eventually ending up the same. People don't want to carry two devices around anymore, and that's going to hurt their handheld business a lot. --- El Psy Congroo |
