I think my desktop just died, want to build a new one (GPU related)

Thinking of building a new one, I know the GPU still works, so is a 1GB ATi Radeon HD 5850 still suitable for today's games? I only had a Core 2 Duo E8400, albeit overclocked, so I'm guessing that was a bigger bottleneck than the card? And could anyone recommend a processor and mobo too? Thinking i5 would be the most affordable for me.

What's your budget for building your new PC. That will make it easier for us to tell you whether or not you should get a new GPU.

If I didn't need a new GPU, I'd be thinking 300 or 400 max. So that's about $600. If I can get away, I ideally would reuse the PSU (which is a Corsair 700w, but I'm unfamiliar if they power newer processors), the case (but if I see a nicer one I'll go for that) and one of my hard disks. I would want to budget a SSD for the OS as well.

My 5850 still holds up fine today.
I can max most games and other games I can play on high at 1920x1080.
Only powerhouses like Metro 2033, BF3, Witcher 2 can't be maxed by the 5850 at 1920x1080.
Its still a solid card.
