Pretty much any modern EA titles CAN be added directly to Origin as long as you have the valid keys.

Also there are many EA based titles bought from Steam which can be added to your Origin library; Alice Madness Returns, Mirror's Edge, SimCity 4, The Sims 3, Crysis, etc.

It depends on the game, it's definitely not universal. Do you have a particular game in mind? Mass Effect 3, Battlefield 3, The Sims 3 are definite "yes" answers.

Older published titles does not, e.g. Tiberium Wars can't be added to Origin directly, as with Battlefield 2, you mostly have to try contacting customer support to do it for you.

For best result any post 2007 titles are pretty much a guarantee to be activated on Origin according to EA.

You sure? what regions did you bought your copy from? I can confirm ME can be added directly into Origin as with ME2. Done so myself and as many others, it works.
