THREE 1080p Monitors

#1TheFAQKingPosted 7/25/2012 7:43:36 AM
I've been running two on my HD 6870 for about a year now. I recently came into possession of a 24 inch TV. I'm itching to hook it up.

So is there a single card I can use for this? I've got about 400 USD. I'm thinking about just googling "video card benchmarks" and buying closest to the top I can afford. Most only have 2 matching outputs. Can I mix DVI and HDMI?

You have a 6870 so you can connect three monitors to it.
But you will have to use the DisplayPort output.

I'm afraid I don't have enough VRAM on the 6870. I'm not saying I want to play Crysis on 3 screens but... if I did...

Or do I not know how VRAM works?

I ran a 5760x1080 setup on two 6870's. the vram becomes an issue with anything more than 2xaa on. even that will do it in some games. you'll want to get one of these if you are serious about a triple monitor gaming setup:

The 7950 looks cool, but this mini-displayport thing is really putting a frown on my face. My monitors only have DVI and HDMI.

You guys use these by any chance?

I've only ever used active adapters. Which I've heard isn't necessary anymore with newer cards, but I haven't done the research to verify.

You can get a GTX670 for about $400 to $420 depending if you get a factory O.C. one. I had a 6870 and was able to run a lot of games at 5760x1080, though when it comes to newer games, or graphically heavy ones it came up short.
